Kaolinite is a naturally occurring mineral. Kaolin is formed when anhydrous aluminium silicates, which are found in feldspar rich rocks, like granite, are altered by weathering and hydrothermal processes. The process which converted the hard granite into the soft matrix found in kaolin pits is known as ‘kaolinisation’. The quartz and mica of the granite remain relatively unchanged, whilst the feldspar is transformed into kaolinite. Our kaolin is produced in Cornwall, England, from naturally occuring mineral deposits.

Our charocal powder is obtained from the wood from the Ubame Oak – a tree which possesses great strength and hardness. The wood is gathered and cured and then heated to over 1000°C for several days until it burns out naturally. It is then covered with a damp mixture of earth, sand and ash to cool it. The rapid rise in temperature followed by the rapid cooling, incinerates the bark leaving a smooth hard surface which is highly adsorptive with a white hue.
